Another Creighton funny: the rule is that you have to ask to be excused from the table after you're done with your meal, and then when you are excused you take your plate to the sink. This was Ric's idea and it happens about 50% of the time. I've really been trying to remember to enforce it though. And I do really push getting the boys to clear their plates, but Creighton has been rather obstinate lately. He tells me it takes to long. I usually respond with, "Fine, then you can go be in the corner and see how long that takes." He then will choose to take the plate over.
Ric handled it a little differently on Saturday though. When Creighton gave Ric his usual response of it taking too long, Ric then reminded him that that's what we do. Creighton whined again about it taking too long. "But Dad, it takes five minutes!" (He thinks five minutes is an eternity.) Ric loudly said, "Creighton, NOW!" Not cowed, but knowing Dad meant business, Creighton grumpily grabbed his plate and walked to the sink.
Ric and I didn't notice his quiet, "One...two...three...four..." until he reached the sink and, raising his voice, triumphantly said, "FIVE!" as he slid the plate in. "See Dad, it take me five minutes!" he whined again. I tried to hide a smile and it was all I could do to keep from laughing. I'm afraid that child is going to give us major grief by the time he's a teenager and it won't be nearly as humorous then!
